Hampton is situated along the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and is graced with miles of shoreline and breathtaking water views. Hampton has a distinct small-town feel with an abundance of amenities. The city of Hampton is rich in history. Being one of the most historic Army bases in the country, Fort Monroe was built prior to the Civil War and it was the jail of Jefferson Davis after the South surrendered. Fort Monroe houses the Casemate Museum and the Old Port Comfort Light House. Hampton is also home to Langley Air Force Base, one of the largest Air Force Bases in the world, making the city a thriving military area.
The Air and Space Museum houses Hampton’s aero space history, an IMAX theatre, and a beautifully restored, historic wooden carousel that people can still ride to this day. The carousel was the pride of the amusement park that operated for years at Buckroe Beach. Buckroe Beach Amusement Park had a wooden roller coaster but was blown up for a Hollywood movie in the 1970’s.
If you want to see a concert at the Hampton Coliseum or Mill Point Park, charter a cruise on the Miss Hampton, visit one of the many art galleries downtown, or dock your boat at the marina, the city of Hampton might just be what you are looking for.
