Newport News was incorporated in 1896 and is now the Peninsula’s most populated city. Located on the banks of the Hampton Roads harbor in southeastern Virginia, Newport News is minutes from Williamsburg and a short drive to Virginia Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Newport News is home to Fort Eustis, a significant Army base built in 1918 and it is located at the mouth of the Warwick River. Fun attractions to see would be the Virginia Living Museum, The Mariner’s Museum, Lee Hall Mansion, Endview Plantation and the Peninsula Fine Arts Center.
